Effective Telegram channel advertising: a step by step plan

What you need to advertise a Telegram channel
To advertise a Telegram channel successfully, prepare several key elements.
1. Create a landing page
Build a page with the channel name, a short description, and a Subscribe button. The landing page should be attractive and solve your audience problem. Highlight their pains and show how your channel helps.
2. Register a domain
Buy a domain for the landing page or create the page on your main site. Avoid free third level domains from site builders.
3. Set up analytics and webmaster tools
Install analytics and webmaster tools on the landing page. This helps measure ad effectiveness and improve results.
4. Create a Direct account
Create a Yandex Direct account and prepare it for launch. If you already have accounts with spend history, that is ideal. The method still works on new accounts, but there is a risk of a ban.
5. Prepare for launch
Create a goal in analytics for clicks on the landing Subscribe button. Create a fake goal named Channel subscription and add a UTM tag to the landing link. This lets you control the fake goal firing.
Create the goal in analytics as shown in the example.
6. Final step: activate the goal and create campaigns
Now the goal will fire only when someone visits the landing page with the UTM tag. To show the system that the goal is active and firing, do the following:
- Visit the UTM tagged link yourself every 1 to 2 days.
- Or post a task on a task exchange so other people perform this action.
This is necessary so the system can track the goal and keep it stable.
Important: do not create ad campaigns immediately. Give analytics a few days to collect conversions and visitors.
Create ad campaigns
Task: create about 10 campaign wizards. Why not one? Because traffic across multiple campaigns is higher.
I usually create one campaign for Moscow and then clone it to other regions. I recommend this flow:
- Create one campaign and pass moderation.
- Then copy it to other regions gradually.
- Do not create 10 campaigns at once. It can cause moderation issues and lower performance.
Following these steps helps create effective campaigns and increase traffic to your channel.
Additional geo options
Besides campaigns for Moscow and other regions in Russia, you can also run campaigns for other countries:
- Belarus: stable traffic and extra subscribers.
- CIS excluding Russia and Belarus: also brings subscribers and can be a good addition.
Campaign settings
Use the following settings:
- For channel click, set a small amount (3 to 4 rubles). At the start you can set 10 to 20 rubles so the account has some spend. After moderation and some delivery, lower the bid.
- For the fake goal, set 300 to 500 rubles but not too aggressive. Ideally keep a large balance so the system delivers more traffic.
Remember that settings depend on goals and budget. Test and find the best configuration for your campaigns.
Launch and scaling
After launch, regularly check performance and trigger the fake goal at least once every two days. This signals that the campaign is active and needs traffic.
Scaling the method
To increase traffic and subscriptions, scale the method:
- Second account: create a new Direct account and repeat the steps.
- Second landing page: build another landing page with a unique domain and content.
- Unique content: use new content for the second landing page to avoid duplication and improve performance.
Scaling can raise traffic and subscriptions, but always track performance and adjust settings when needed.
